For families traveling from the US
Egypt family tours, planned by people who have done it many times
The pyramids are extraordinary at any age. The difficulty is heat, distance and a seven-hour time difference from New York — which is a planning problem, and planning is what we do.

What you get
Six things we plan differently for families.
A pace that suits children
Mornings at sites, afternoons free. We would rather you saw four things well than nine things badly.
Guides who are good with kids
Not every excellent Egyptologist is good with an eight-year-old. We know which of ours are, and we send those.
Your own vehicle all day
Somewhere air-conditioned to retreat to, and no waiting for a group when someone has had enough.
Hotels chosen for families
Pool, sensible dinner times, connecting or family rooms. We will tell you honestly which properties work and which only look good online.
Jet lag planned in
Egypt is 6 to 7 hours ahead of US Eastern. We build the first two days around that instead of pretending it does not exist.
Someone to call
A Cairo number to call throughout your trip, answered by a person who already knows your itinerary.
Suggested routes
Two of our journeys that suit a family trip. Both are starting points: we adjust the pace, the hotels and the number of days to your children’s ages. Prices are per person, 2 sharing; children usually pay less. See what every private tour includes.
Questions we get asked
What ages does this actually work for?
From about five upward, with the right pacing. Under five the heat and walking are usually the limiting factor, though a short Cairo trip can still work well. Tell us their ages and we will be honest about what is realistic.
Is the heat a problem?
Between May and September, yes — genuinely. October to April is far more comfortable for children. If you can only travel in summer we will restructure the days around early mornings and indoor afternoons, and say so plainly.
Can children ride camels or go inside a pyramid?
Camel rides, yes, with a handler alongside. Pyramid interiors are narrow, steep and unventilated — many children dislike them and there is no shame in skipping it. Your guide will judge it on the day rather than pushing.
What about food and stomach upsets?
We use restaurants we eat at ourselves and can steer toward plainer options. Bottled water is in the vehicle throughout. This is a common worry and it is mostly manageable with sensible choices.
Do you offer a family discount?
Children usually cost less than adults on entrance fees and cruise cabins, and sharing a room reduces the per-person figure considerably. Send us the ages and the quote will reflect it.
